As cheaper hardware becomes available, you can begin to change your equipment to add 10Gbps networking for home.
One place I see using most is a NAS (Network attached storage), where you can host all your photos or videos. Getting large files to your PC from a NAS can become slow on 1 Gbps network. So the first step to implement a 10Gbps network, is probably just to do networking from your workstation or main PC to a high-speed NAS using 10Gpbs.
Some of the considerations includes using CAT 7a or CAT8 cabling... and getting a 10Gbps switch/router and PCIe card for your PC (unless it is a new motherboard with built-in 10 Gbps port)
